Project - Amanda

For my midterm project I made a decision to hold off on doing my subway piece for the final. I did go through the subways this week and collect sound snippets from strangers on the 2 train in Brooklyn.. it turned out that most people after their initial hesitation, were very interested in the project and were excited to share what they were listening to. A couple of unexpected things came up, but overall it was a good start. in order to map out the route along an actual train line (I will be doing the 2/3) it will take a lot more sound collection and a lot more time to produce.. the initial collection helped me map out the project a little bit and alerted me to potential pitfalls.  I will treat it as more of a study.

For my midterm, though, I stayed with the theme of getting glimpses of people’s publicly available private spaces. I created a short piece in an office, where people work very close to one another but mostly wear headphones and are in their own worlds.
